Your corporate mission statement describes the purpose of your organization, the business of your organization and the values of your organization. The mission statement should give short and precise answers to the following questions:
What are the opportunities or needs that we exist to address? (The purpose)
What are we doing to address these needs? (The business)
What principles or beliefs guide our work? (The values)
An effective mission statement must resonate with the people working in and for the organization. It must express the organizationīs purpose in a way that inspires commitment, innovation and courage --- not an easy task!
It should motivate those who are connected to the organization.
It should be articulated in a way that is convincing and easy to grasp.
It should be free of jargon and use proactive verbs to describe what you do.
It should be short enough so that anybody connected to the organization can readily repeat it.
